Starting a Christmas Eve Box tradition

boxI love Christmas eve and all the anticipation of Christmas and preparations like wrapping last minute gifts, cooking, making desserts, watching Christmas movies, etc.

This year we added started a new Christmas eve traditions… a Christmas eve box!

This was a totally unexpected surprise for the kids and something mommy got credit for and not Santa for a change!

Our Christmas eve box was filled with goodies and meant to be enjoyed on the night before Christmas. It was also a great distraction while we baked Santa’s cookies otherwise Alex would have wanted to help bake the cookies which at that point we just wanted to get done!

You could tailor make your box according to your own tastes. I got snacks and things that I knew they would like.

What I put in my Christmas Eve box

  • A new Starwars shirt to wear on Christmas eve (and also allowed them to sleep in it!)
  • A matching comfortable track pants
  • Glow sticks
  • A special Christmas mug for hot chocolate and milk (found these cute mugs for R9.99 on markdown at PEP home)
  • Christmas movies (rentals from the video store)
  • Microwave popcorn (we didn’t even get to eat this!)
  • A tube of milky bar buttons

As you can see, the treats were a huge hit and we all got to enjoy watching the Christmas movies with the kids after we had ticked off everything on our to-do list!

I think this is something nice you could do even if you don’t have kids. It makes anticipating Christmas all the more special!

Other Christmas eve traditions

Of course we also baked cookies for Santa (who only eats homemade according to the kids) and also peeled some carrots for his reindeer before going to bed. As you can see they really enjoyed their snacks and also left quite a mess of crumbs on the carpet and plate!

Santa and the reindeer enjoyed their snacks!

Is this something you would do for yourself or your kids? What other items can you think of that would be nice to add to a Christmas eve box? Ideas are welcome for the next one!

This is such a fantastic idea, it would put lots of smiles on even the adults’ faces on Xmas Eve. I’ll be sure to steal this idea when it comes around again. I love the pics of the kids but is there a reason why little Alex does not have a girly t-shirt on? I didn’t score any browny points when Joshua received a skateboard and she received a stupid girly pressie lol ….. but there’s always another xmas

As proven by the skateboard debacle, it is safer to just get them the same! I couldn’t deal with the tears for Joshua’s Darth Vadar shirt so just got them the same one . She loves the fact that they are the same even though Joshua thinks its weird!
