This year Josh’s 8th birthday coincided with a visit to South Africa by Mary and Michael, our friends from Tasmania, Australia. So on the day before Josh’s birthday we saw that the weather forecast for the next day was chilly but clear and hatched a hasty plan to take a tour of the city on the City Sightseeing bus and a trip on the cable car up to the top of our city’s most famous and iconic landmark – Table Mountain!
Wow! The wind at the top of the mountain was almost gale-force. However, since we decided to combine the adventure with a hop on hop off tour of the city on the Sightseeing bus we really didn’t mind as long as the rain stayed away!
Besides being very windblown, the views from the top were amazing.
Mary and Michael were treated to majestic views of right around the Cape Peninsula. When we walked enough to see the other side of the Table Mountain National Park they actually could not believe that there was a whole other side of the city! They thought the city bowl was all of Cape Town!
It really is a rare sight to see where two oceans meet and I know how fortunate we are to live here in the Southernmost tip of Africa and enjoy views like this. The kids enjoyed themselves immensely climbing all over the Table Mountain and then also running around on the beach at Camps Bay afterwards.
So Josh had a birthday he will never forget. I’m so glad we got to experience such an unforgettable day with friends! This was really one birthday Josh will never forget!
